Reimagining Urban Landscapes: Negotiating Mumbai’s Paradoxes

🌏 About the Global Studio Program (GSP)

The IFLA Global Studio Program (GSP) is a flagship initiative by the International Federation of Landscape Architects, launched in 2024 to promote international, cross-cultural learning in landscape architecture. GSP invites students from across the globe to participate in immersive charettes hosted alongside key IFLA regional events.

After its successful debut in Istanbul, Taipei, Tepoztlán, and Riyadh, the 2025 edition expands to include postgraduate students and cities like Nantes (France), Santiago (Chile) + Mumbai (India) and Wuhan (China).

🌿 GSP MUMBAI CHARETTE | 8^th –12^th NOVEMBER 2025

• Venue: Vivekanand Education Society’s College of Architecture (VESCOA), Mumbai.
• Organised by: Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA)

Coinciding with the IFLA APR Regional Congress 2025, this 5-day charette invites students to engage with Mumbai’s rich, layered, and often paradoxical urban realities. Through site visits, participatory mapping, and expert lectures, the program offers a deep dive into landscape-led thinking in the Global South.

👩‍🎓 Eligibility

Students majoring in landscape architecture all over the world (including undergraduate and post graduate students). He/she must be an active student enrolled in a program when the charrette takes place. Proficiency in the English language, ability to use drawing and visualization programs, etc. is crucial to apply for student charrette.

All the Indian student participants from the Institutes recognised by ISOLA (Indian Society of Landscape Architects) should be student members of ISOLA and should submit the proof of the same.

👩‍🎓 Application Process

The Applicants are requested to submit the following on an email:

Letter of Intent: 2 pages maximum (A4 size), please describe yourself and why you should be admitted into the Charette. Include self-introduction and share an experience/anecdote (personal or related to your studies) that has changed or evolved the way you consider landscapes and/or landscape roles. It should be saved as an un editable PDF.

Proof of Student Enrolment: All participants must be enrolled in a program at the time of the charrette’s and submit a Student Certificate.

Portfolio: Selected samples of your personal work, from your studio projects or portfolio. You must present, through a book, at least 2 project that describes the best the theme “Reimagining Urban Landscape”. Not more than 8 slides. (A4 Size)

The GSP Mumbai Charette organising committee reserves the right of selection. The selected candidate will receive an email confirmation. Only the selected candidate will be required to make the payment.

Participation fee: 30 € / participant

• The fee includes lunch, coffee breaks, site visit(s), and program participation. (The fee does NOT include personal expenses such as flights, travel insurance, shopping, touristic visits, breakfast, dinner, etc.). The payment method for the participation fee will be notified to the selected applicants on email. For both online and offline participants.
